MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
Brakes
The front and rear brakes are hydraulic dis c type brakes and are
activated by the brake pedal. S ee page 33.
Brake Flui d
Routin e inspections are recommended to keep the brake system in
good operating condition. Inspect the level of the brake fluid before
each operation.
Change the brake flui d at the intervals outlined in the Periodic
Maintenance Chart beginning on page 54. The brake fluid should also
be changed if it becomes contaminated, if t he fluid level is below the
minimum, or if the t ype and brand of the fluid i n the reservoir are
unknown.
1. Position the vehicle on a level
surface.
2. View the brake fluid level at the
reservoir (1) under the hood. The
level sh o u l d be between the upper
(MAX) and lower (MIN) level
lines.
3. If the fluid level is lower than the
lower level line, add brake fluid to
the upper (MAX) line.
4. Apply the brake forcefully for a
few seconds and check for fluid
leakage around the fitting s.
WARNING
After opening a bottle of brake fluid, always discard any unused
portion. Never store or use a partial bottle. Brake fluid is
hygroscopic, meaning it rapidly absorbs moisture from t he air.
The moisture causes the boiling temperature of t he brake fluid to
drop, which can lead to early brake fade and the possibility of
accident or severe injury.
