Engine Oil
Oil and F ilter Change
1. Position the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Clean the area around the drain plug.
3. Run the engine for two to three minutes until warm. S top the
engine.
CAUTION
Contact with hot oil may result in serious burns. Do not allow hot
oil to come into contact with skin.
4. Place a drain pan beneat h the engine crankcase and remove the
drain plug.
5. Allow the oil to drain completely.
6. Install a new sealing washer on the drain plug.
NOTE: The sealing surfaces on the drain plug and crankcase should
be clean and free of burrs, nicks or scratches.
7. Reinstall the drain plug and torque to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
8. Place shop towels beneath the oil filter. Using an oil filter wrench,
turn the filter counterclockwise to rem ove.
9. Using a clean, dry cloth, clean the filter sealing surface on the
crankcase.
10. Lubricate t he gasket on the new filter with a film of engine oil.
Check to make sure the gasket is in good condition.
11. Install the new filter and turn by hand until the filter gasket
contacts the sealing surface, then turn and additional 1/2 turn.
12. R emove the dipstick and fill the sump with 1.7 quart s (1.6 l) of the
recommended oil.
13. Place the gear selector in neutral and set the parking brake.
14. Start the engine and l et it idle for one to two minutes. Stop the
engine and inspect for leaks.
15. R echeck the oil level and add oil as necessary to bring t he level to
the upper m ark on the dipstick.
16. Dispose of used filter and oil properly.
