17.1 Pressure Washer
17 Troubleshooting Guide
Before troubleshooting, switch off the pressure washer and disconnect the unit from the power supply. Relieve all system
pressure by pulling the trigger switch. Lock the spray gun trigger.
Condition Possible Cause Remedy
The pressure washer does
not start although the spray
gun trigger is pulled.
The power supply cord is not connected
to an electrical outlet.
► Connect the power supply cord to a properly
installed electrical outlet.
The electric motor is too warm. ► Allow the pressure washer to cool at ambient
temperatures for approximately 5 minutes.
► Clean the nozzle, @ 15.2.
The pressure washer does
not start when switched on.
The electric motor hums.
The mains voltage is too low. ► Pull and hold the spray gun trigger and switch on
the pressure washer.
► Switch off other loads connected to the same
electrical circuit.
The pressure washer
switches off while in
operation.
The power supply cord is not connected
to an electrical outlet.
► Connect the power supply cord to a properly
installed electrical outlet.
The electric motor is too warm. ► Allow the pressure washer to cool at ambient
temperatures for approximately 5 minutes.
► Clean the nozzle, @ 15.2.
The high-pressure pump
repeatedly switches on and
off without pulling the spray
gun trigger.
There is a leak in the high-pressure
pump, high-pressure hose or spray
attachment.
► Have the pressure washer inspected and
repaired by an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer.
The water pressure
fluctuates or drops.
There is not enough water. ► Open the water tap fully.
► Make sure that a sufficient quantity of water is
available.
The nozzle is blocked. ► Clean the nozzle, @ 15.2.
The water intake screen or water filter is
blocked.
► Clean water intake screen and water filter,
@ 15.3 and @ 15.4.
The high-pressure pump, high-pressure
hose or spray attachment is leaking or
faulty.
► Ask a STIHL servicing dealer to inspect the
pressure washer.
The shape of the water jet
has changed.
The nozzle is blocked. ► Clean the nozzle, @ 15.2.
