level

Although
the
recording
level
is
usually
adjusted
simply
so that
the indication
needles
of the
peak
level/VU
meters
do
not exceed
the
"0
dB"
indication
at maximum
deflec-
tion,
this
unit has
a Peak-signal-check
switch
which
makes
it
possible
to make
even
more
precise
ad.justment,
as
de-
scribed
below.

adjust the
recording
level,
using the
Line input
level
controls,

indication
needles
do not
exceed
the
"0
dB" mark.

"lN"
position.

the
needles

signal-check
switch to
the
"OUT"
position
to conf irm
that
the
indication
is
less
than
"0
dB."

2. Difference
between
dellection
of indication
needles
at
"OUT"
positions
Because
the response
of indication
needles
is
slow for
ordinary
Ievel
meters,
the level
of
instantaneous
sounds
is
not
correctly
indicated,
which
means
that large
instanta_
neous
sounds
may
become
distorted
when
recoroeo.
This
unit includes
a
Peak-signal-check
switch which,
when
set to
the
"lN"
position,
precisely
indicates
the
level
of
such instantaneous
sounds.
The
Peak level/VU
meters
of this
unit
have
two
scales
which
show
the output levet.
When
the
Peak-signal-check
switch
is set to
the
"lN"
oosi-
tion,
the lower
scale
can
be used for
readout
up
to
+6
dB.
When
the
Peak-signal-check
switch
is set to
the
,,OUT,'
position,
the
upper
scale can
be
used for
readout
uo to
+3
dB.

Dolby
Recording
This
unit includes
the Dolby
noise-reduction
system,
which
reduces
tape noise
to
a remarkable
degree.
Briefly,
the
system works
as follows:
At low
sound
levels
(where
tape
noise
is most
noticeable),
the
high-frequency
portion
of the
sound
is recorded
at a higher
level.
Tape
noise
is not
amolified.
During
playback,
the
level
of
only that
portion
of the
signal
which
was
increased
at the time
of
the
recording,
as well
as
tape
noise,
is
reduced
by a like
amount. This
causes
the
signal
to
be heard
at a normal
level,
and
the tape
noise
to
be
reduced
si
gnif
icantly.
Monitoring
To
listen
tothe
recording
as it is
being made,
simply
plug
a
set
of stereo
headphones (8o)
into the
Headphones
jack,
You
may
also listen
to the
program
as it
is being
recorded
if
your
receiver
or amplif ier is
equipped with
a Tape-moni-
tor switch.
Note:
In
the
same way
as for
playback,
an
arnplilier
can
also
be
used
lor monitoring.
Note, however, if
the
recording
is
being mad€
via
a
connection made to the
Record/
Playback
connection
socket, that monitoring
can be
done
only with headphones.
Mix
Recording

This
unit
can be
used for
making mixed
recordings
of the
mlcrophone
input
and the line
input.

Mixed
recordings
can
be made
by simply
making
the
microphone
and line
input
connections.

For
balanced
mix
recording,
adjust
the levels
while
moni-
toring
through
headphones.
.
When
not making
a mix recording,
set the
Input
Level
Controls
not
being
used
(Microphone
or
Line input)
to the
minimum
"0'
position.
