Preparing the Fuel System
Gasoline can v aporiz e if y ou stor e it o v er
long periods of time and explode if it comes
into contact with an open flame.
• Do not stor e gasoline o v er long periods
of time.
• Do not stor e the la wn mo w er with
gasoline in the fuel tank or the carbur etor
in an enclosur e with an open flame. (F or
example, a fur nace or a w ater heater pilot
light.)
• Allo w the engine to cool bef or e storing
it in an y enclosur e.
Empty the fuel tank when mo wing the last time
before storing the la wn mo w er .
1. R un the la wn mo w er until the engine stops
from r unning out of fuel.
2. Prime the engine and star t it ag ain.
3. Allo w the engine to r un until it stops . W hen
y ou can no long er star t the engine , it is
sufficiently dr y .
Preparing the Engine
1. W hile the engine is still w ar m, c hang e the oil
from the crankcase . R efer to Changing the
Engine Oil.
2. R emo v e the spark plug ( Figure 13 ).
3. Using an oil can, add about one tablespoon
of oil to the crankcase through the spark plug
hole .
4. Slo wly rotate the engine sev eral times , using
the star ter rope , to distribute the oil.
5. Install the spark plug but do not connect the
wire to the spark plug .
General Information
1. Clean the la wn mo w er housing . R efer to Clean
under the La wn Mo w er Housing .
2. Clean any dir t and c haff from the cylinder ,
cylinder head fins , and blo w er housing .
3. R emo v e g rass clippings , dir t, and g rime from
the exter nal par ts of the engine , the shrouding,
and the top of the la wn mo w er housing .
4. Chec k the condition of the blade . R efer to
Maintaining the Cutting Blade .
5. Clean the blade brak e clutc h shield; refer to
Cleaning the Blade Brak e Clutc h Shield.
6. Ser vice the air filter; refer to Ser vicing the Air
Filter .
7. Lubricate the pi v ot ar ms; refer to Lubricating
the Pi v ot Ar ms .
8. Tighten all n uts , bolts , and screws .
9. T ouc h up all r usted or c hipped paint surfaces
with paint a v ailable from an A uthorized
Ser vice Dealer .
Removing the Lawn Mower
from Storage
1. Chec k and tighten all fasteners .
2. R emo v e the spark plug and spin the engine
rapidly using the star ter to blo w ex cess oil from
the cylinder .
3. Clean the spark plug or re place it if it is
crac k ed, brok en, or if the electrodes are w or n.
4. Install the spark plug and tor que it to 17 ft-lb
(23 N ⋅ m).
5. P erfor m any needed maintenance procedures;
refer to Maintenance .
6. Fill the fuel in the fuel tank with fresh g asoline .
7. Chec k the engine oil lev el.
8. Connect the wire to the spark plug .
