SPEEDOMETER
DRIVE
The drive on all models
is
taken from the gearbox layshaft and is situated in the
gearbox inner cover. To disconnect the drive
it
is
only necessary to unscrew the
cable nut at the gearbox end and withdraw the cable.
If an oil leak occurs at the drive bush in the outer cover, this indicates that the bush
oil seal has broken down. To remedy this fault, remove the outer cover (See page
77)
when the bush can be removed to enable the fitting of a new oil seal (See page
78).
For owners who wish to convert the gearbox to close ratio, no speedometer drive
is
avai\able as
it
is usual
to
incorporate a R.P.M. indicator which
is
driven off the exhaust
camshaft wheel in lieu of the dynamo drive. For this condition, a special plug and
washer can be supplied to replace the original drive.
TACHOMETER DRIVE
A
tachometer and drive can be installed on the TI00 and TI10 to indicate the engine
R.P.M. The tachometer head replaces the speedometer head in the nacelle and the
tachometer gearbox replaces the dynamo. The drive between the two units
is
by
cable. When close ratio gears are employed a plug
is
supplied to blank OH the
speedometer drive in the gearbox inner cover.
CHAINS
Slack or badly adjusted chains are a prolific cause of harsh running and excessive krear.
It
is therefore of the greatest importance that the adjustments are made correctly,
both front and rear chains are adequately lubricated and
all
clamping nuts are
securely tightened.
Tension. Primary chain

Rear chain

PRIMARY CHAIN ADJUSTMENT (RIGID FRAME MODELS)
Gearbox Pivot Bolt.
This bolt locates the gearbox to the lower frame and
it
must be slackened off before making an adjustment.
Gearbox Clamp Bolt. To gain access to the clamp bolt nut, remove the R.H.
footrest and push the spindle out of the way.
It
is
then possible to apply a spanner
to the clamp nut.
Adjuster. This
is
located above the gearbox and to SLACKEN the chain, turn the
adjuster ANTI-CLOCKWISE and to tighten turn CLOCKWISE. When tightening
the chain always pull the gearbox back after adjusting, then test the chain tension.
The reason for this is that the loading on the rear chain pulls the gearbox towards
the rear. thus altering the chain tension.
Securing Gearbox. Re-tighten the clamping nut and pivot bolt and ensure
absolute security.
