Dismantling Spring Wheel
Brake
Anchor Plate. Place the wheel on the bench, brake side uppermost. Prise
ofi
the spindle to irame anchorage lever and remove the two split collars under-
neath. Withdraw the dust excluder centre sleeve and sliding portion. Unscrew
the dust excluder securing screws and ease the cover away. Lift the brake anchor
plate. Remove the cast-iron ring.
Slipper Roller. Before t.rmoving the brake drum side slipper roller, test for
freedom of rotation and clearance at each side. If the roller rotates freely and the
clearance
is
not more than
0.002"
(0.05
mm.)
EACH
SIDE,
it
will be in order to
proceed with the dismantling. Should the clearance be above the l~mit, make a note
of the dimensions to
assist
rectification on assembly. After checking, remove the
slipper roller. Turn the wheel over and remove the chamfered collar and dust
excluder assembly. Remove the slipper roller, after checking,
as
described above.

withdraw the end plate from the hub by tightening
the centre screw of the jig.
Alurnlniurn Shims.
These shims are fitted beneath the end plate and should be
counted on removal to ensure correct clearance on re-assembly.
