5 High voltage testing
Danger! High-voltage
When using surge mode:
Cordon off syscompact at a distance of 1.5 m
Persons must stand only outside the barrier
The functionality of high voltage testing is mainly used to detect the breakdown voltage of a
fault with the Syscompact 2000.
Pull switch 4 on the SA 32 and set it to position .test.. After switching on, set pulse selector
switch on the SSG (operating manual SSG, no. 6) to position “=” (DC output).
If the cables are properly connected, the surge voltage generator can be operated in DC
mode.
The current is read from the mA Meter 3 on the SA 32. The sensitivity of the mA meter can
be selected in 3 ranges, preferably starting with the highest range.
Regulating transformer of surge voltage generator is turned up to the required test voltage
(take care of current and voltage display) and leakage current is read from mA meter.
Maximum output current must not exceed 250mA.
During the testing procedure, the surge voltage capacitors are decoupled by additional high
power resistors.
See also SSG operating manual.
