PREPARINGTHEGASOLINEVEHICLEFOREXTENDEDSTORAGE
1.Storevehicleinacool,dryplace.Thiswillminimizebatteryself-discharge.Ifthebatteryappearstobeweak,
haveitchargedbyatrainedtechnician.Useanautomotive-type12-voltbatterychargerratedat10ampsorless.
2.Draincarburetorandsealthefueltank.
2.1.PlacetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALpositionandtheneutrallockoutcaminthe
MAINTENANCEposition.Turnthefuelshut-offvalvetotheclosed(OFF)position(Figure24)andrun
theengineuntilfuelremaininginthecarburetorandfuellinesisdepletedandtheenginestalls.Return
theneutrallockoutcamtotheOPERATEposition.
2.2.Loosen,butdonotremove,thecarburetordrainscrewanddrainfuelremaininginbowlintoasmall,clean
container,thenpourthefuelfromthecontainerintovehiclefueltank.Tightenthecarburetordrainscrew.
2.3.Disconnectfuelventlinefromfueltankventnipple.
2.4.Plugthefueltankventnipplesothatitisairtight.Werecommendusingaslip-onvinylcap.
3.Disconnectbatteryandsparkplugwire(s).SeeDisconnectingtheBattery–GasolineVehiclesonpage13.
4.Batteryshouldbecleanandfreeofcorrosion.Washtopandterminalsofbatterywithasolutionofbakingsoda
andwater(1cup(237mL)bakingsodaper1gallon(3.8L)ofwater).Rinsesolutionoffbattery.Donotallow
thissolutiontoenterthebattery.LettheterminalsdryandthencoatthemwithBatteryTerminalProtector
Spray(CCP/N1014305).
5.Toprotecttheengine,removesparkplugandpour1/2ounce(14.2mL)ofSAE10weightoilintotheengine
throughthesparkplughole.Rotateenginecrankshaftbyhandseveraltimesandtheninstallthesparkplug.
6.Adjusttirestorecommendedtirepressure.SeeVehicleSpecicationsonpage59.
7.Performsemiannualperiodiclubrication.SeePeriodicLubricationSchedulesonpage40.
8.Thoroughlycleanfrontbody,rearbody,seats,enginecompartment,andundersideofvehicle.
9.Donotengagetheparkbrake.Chockthewheelstopreventthevehiclefromrolling.
