Spark Plug(s)
Every100hoursofoperation,removethesparkplugs.
Checkthereconditionand resetthe gap,or replacewith
newplugs.
• Beforeremovingthesparkplug,cleanthe area
aroundthebaseofthe plugtoe keepdirt anddebris
outof theengine.
• Removetheplugandcheck itscondition.Replace
theplugif wornor reuseis questionable.
NOTE:Donotcleanthe sparkplugin a machineusing
abrasivegrit. Somegritcouldremaininthe spark
plugandentertheenginecausingextensivewearand
damage.
• Checkthegap usinga wire feelergauge.Adjustthe
gapto .030in.(0.76ram)bycarefullybendingthe
groundelectrode.SeeFigure20.

Engine Cooling
Toensurepropercooling,makesurethe grassscreen,
coolingfins, andotherexternalsurfacesof theengine
arekeptcleanatalltimes.
Every100hoursofoperation(moreoftenunder
extremelydusty,dirtyconditions),removetheblower
housingandothercoolingshrouds.Cleanthe cooling
finsandexternalsurfacesas necessary.Makesurethe
coolingshroudsare properlyreinstalled.
Carburetor
Incompliancewithgovernmentemissionstandards,the
carburetoriscalibratedtodeliverthecorrectfuel-to-air
mixtureto the engineunderalloperatingconditions.
Thehighspeedmixtureis setat the factoryandcannot
beadjusted.
If enginetroublesareexperiencedthatappearto be fuel
systemrelated,checkthefollowingareas:
• Makesurethefuel tankis filledwithclean,fresh
gasoline.Makesurethefueltankventisnotblocked.
• Makesurethein-linefuelfilteris cleanand unob-
structed.Replacethefilter if necessary.
• Makesuretheair cleanerelementis cleanandallair
cleanerelementcomponentsare fastenedsecurely.
If aftercheckingtheaboveitemsthe engineis hardto
start,runsroughly,stalls,or lackspower,contactyour
CubCadetdealertohavethecarburetorandfuel pump
inspected.
Fuel Line
Changethe fuel linefilterafterevery100hoursof opera-
tion.Thefuelfilterislocatedontheleft sideof the engine
inthefuelline.Notetheorientationof thefilterto install
thenewfiltercorrectly.
• Placeacontainerbelowthe filterto catchany spilled
gasolineandcarefullyclampthe fuel lines.
• Loosenthe hoseclampsto removeand replacethe
filter.
Lubrication
WARNING:Beforelubricating,repairing,
or inspecting, alwaysdisengagePTO,set
parkingbrake,stopengineandremove
keytopreventunintendedstarting.
Steering
Thesteeringarms,pivotshafts,andaxlesmust belubri-
catedafterevery25 hourof operation.Lubricateusinga
pressuregreasegunandCubCadet251HEPgrease,or
anequivalentNo.2 multipurposelithiumgrease.
• Applygreasethroughthe lubefitting onthe RHand
LHsteeringarmswhichare locatedat rearwardendof
thetwosteeringdrag links.See Figure21.
