Battery
Thebatteryis sealedandis maintenance-free,Acid
levelscannotbe checked,
° Alwayskeepthe batterycablesandterminalsclean
andfreeofcorrosivebuild-up,
Aftercleaningthe batteryandterminals,apply a light
coatofpetroleumjellyor greaseto bothterminals.
Alwayskeeptherubberbootpositionedoverthe
positiveterminalto preventshorting,
IMPORTANT:If removingthebatteryforanyreason,
disconnecttheNEGATIVE(Black)wirefromit'sterminal
FIRST,followedbythePOSITIVE(Red)wire,When
re-installingthebattery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE
(Red)wire itsterminalfirst,followedby the NEGATIVE
(Black)wire,Becertainthatthewiresareconnectedto
thecorrectterminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe
polarityandresultindamagetoyourengine'salternating
system.
Charging
If the tractorhasnotbeenputintouseforanextended
periodoftime,chargethebatterywith anautomotive-
type 12-voltchargerfor aminimumof onehour at six
amps.

Jump Starting

IMPORTANT:Neverjump yourtractor'sdeadbattery
withthebatteryof a runningvehicle,
1, Connectendof onejumpercableto the positive
terminalofthegoodbattery,thentheotherendto
thepositiveterminalof the deadbattery,
2, Connectthe otherjurnpercableto the negative
terminalofthegoodbattery,thentotheframe of the
unit with the dead battery.
WARNING:Failureto usethisproce-
durecouldcausesparking,andthe
gasineitherbatterycouldexplode.
Cleaning the Battery
Cleanthebatterybyremovingit fromthe tractorand
washingwitha bakingsodaandwatersolution,If neces-
sary,scrapethebatteryterminalswitha wirebrushto
removedeposits,Coatterminalsandexposedwiringwith
greaseor petroleumjelly to preventcorrosion,
Battery Failures
Somecommoncausesfor batteryfailureare:

°overcharging
• corrodedconnections

warranty.
Cutting Deck Removal
Toremovethecuttingdeck, proceedasfollows:
1, DisengagethePTO(BladeEngage)andengagethe
parkingbrake.
2, Placethedeckgaugewheelsintheirhighestsetting
(lowestdecksetting).
3, Lowerthe deckby movingthedecklift leverintothe
bottomnotchonthe rightfender.
4, Lookingat the cuttingdeckfromthe leftsideofthe
tractor,locatethedeck supportpinonthe rearleft
sideof thedeck.SeeFigure23,
