R (shown in Figure 3-3)
is
a
small-cluster
controller
designed
for
remote operations. It contains a Type 1 Communication
Adapter
that provides
EIA 232D/CCITT V.24 and CCITT V.35 interfaces
for
SNA/SDLC, BSC,
or
X.25
remote
link
attachment. It has 1 MB of base storage and one 5-1/4-inch, 1.2MB,
high-capacity diskette drive. A four-port
terminal adapter supports
four
terminals
directly
or
eight 3270
terminals
through an IBM
3299
Terminal
Multiplexer.
Customizing is performed with a control unit terminal attached to port 0 of the 3174.
Any
terminal
can be attached to port 0 at
other
times. The Model
81
R supports full
keyboard utilities.
Subsystem
online
tests and problem determination
are
performed through a
control unit
terminal
attached to any port
or
multiplexer
without
interrupting
other
terminals
attached to the 3174. Offline tests
are
performed through the 3174
control panel.
The
81
R
controller
supports no customer-installable features.
