Depending on the types of communication adapters installed, certain models of the
3174 Establishment
Controller
can be configured to operate as different models.
These different configurations
are
known as alternate configurations.
Alternate configurations
provide
the following advantages:
•
Controller
flexibility
• Increased communication capabilities
• Backup communications.
To use one of the
controllers
listed in Table A-4 in an alternate configuration, you
must configure a Control
disk
for
each communication protocol.
Note: All models that have the Token-Ring Gateway feature installed can be
customized as the gateway
controller
in the
Primary
or
Alternate
configuration.
