A drive with any other status (such as DPY/Rebuild or DPY/Unprotected) does not have device
parity protection.
Examples:
v Suppose one drive has a status of DPY/Failed while all other drives have a status of
DPY/Unprotected. In this case, only the drive with the DPY/Failed status is protected. Servicing
the failed drive does not result in data loss. Removing any of the unprotected drives might result in
data loss.
v All drives have a status of DPY/Active or DPY/Degraded, therefore, all drives are protected. In
this case, exchanging any drive does not result in data loss.

Rebuilding data on a replacement disk drive or solid-state drive
Find information about rebuilding data on a replacement disk drive or solid-state drive by using your
operating system.
Rebuilding data on a replacement disk drive or solid-state drive in a system or
logical partition running the AIX operating system
To rebuild data on the replacement disk drive or solid-state drive by using the AIX operating system,
complete the steps in this procedure.
1. To rebuild a drive by using the AIX operating system, complete the following steps:
Notes:
v If a hot-spare drive is available when the drive was put in the failed state, the AIX operating
system will add it to the array to replace the failed drive, and the array rebuild will start
automatically. No additional steps are required. To check the status of an array, continue with step
1c.
v If you previously deleted the array, continue with step 6 on page 120.
a. Press the F3 key on the console to return to the SCSI and SCSI RAID Hot Plug Manager menu.
b. When the configuration is complete, press F3 twice to return to the IBM SAS Disk Array Manager
menu.
c. Select List SAS Disk Array Configuration.
2. Choose from the following options:
v If the state of the array is Degraded, continue with step 3.
v If the state of the array is Failed or Missing, continue with step 5 on page 120.
3. If the state of the array is Degraded, complete the following steps to change the state of the array to
Optimal:
a. Press F3 to return to the IBM SAS Disk Array Manager menu.
b. Select Reconstruct a SAS Disk Array and press Enter.
c. Select the pdisk that you want to reconstruct, which should be the drive that you just installed.
The array is rebuilt.
4. This ends the procedure.
