8 TROUBLESHOOTING
8.1 GENERAL________________________________________________________________
The troubleshooting chart below lists basic problems that may occur during start-up and operation. For more detailed
information regarding the hydraulic and electrical systems contact your area Jacobsen Dealer.
Symptoms Possible Causes Action
Engine will not start. 1. Fuel tank empty or dirty. 1. Fill with fresh fuel. Change fuel filter.
2. Engine switch OFF. 2. Turn engine switch ON.
Engine hard to start or
runs poorly.
1. Fuel level low, fuel or fuel filter
dirty.
1. Fill with fresh fuel.
2. Air cleaner dirty. 2. Inspect and replace air filter.
3. Engine problem. 3. Consult engine manual.
Engine stops. Fuel tank empty. Fill with fresh fuel.
Engine overheating 1. Air intake restricted. 1. Clean cooling air intake.
2. Engine overload. 2. Reduce forward speed.
Tines Plugging. 1. Dirty or corroded tines. 1. Thoroughly clean tines and lightly water greens.
2. Burrs on Tines. 2. Remove burrs with file.
3. Engine speed too slow. 3. Operate at higher engine speed.
4. Oversized tires. 4. See tire specifications.
Tines not Penetrating
Turf
Tines worn or plugged. Replace or clean tines.
Tines not lifting high
enough
Low hydraulic fluid. Add hydraulic fluid, See Section 7.7.
Tines wont move Bent pushrod. Replace pushrod.
Turf Lifting Shallow rooted turf. Increase turf guard spring tension. See Section 6.2.
Traction drive does not
engage.
Traction drive idler cable out of
adjustment.
Adjust cable. See Section 6.4.
Aerator drive does not
engage
Aerator drive idler cable out of
adjustment.
Adjust cable. See Section 6.3.
Oblong hole in turf Unit out of time. Check Timing, See Section 6.3.
Noise in Camcase Unit out of time. Check Timing, See Section 6.3.
