Battery And Connections
If thestartingbatteryforthevehicleenginemust alsobe
used for starting the generator engine, the negative
battery terminalmust be grounded to the vehicleframe
and heavy gauge (#4) ground strap must connect the
ground lugon thegenerator set to the vehicle frame as
illustrated in Figure 6-24.
NOTE
A groundconnection is requiredbetweenthegenerator
andthevehicleframeevenifthebatteryusedtostartthe
generator is not the same as the vehicles.

WARNING
Sulfuric acid in batteries.
Can cause severe injury or death.
Use protective goggles and clothes. Can cause
permanent damage to eyes, burn skin, and eat holes
in clothing.
Explosion can causesevereinjuryordeath. Battery
gases cancausean explosion. Donot smoke or permit
flame or spark to occur near a battery at any time,
particularly when it is beingcharged. Avoid contacting
terminalswithtools,etc. topreventburnsandtoprevent
sparks that could cause an explosion. Remove
wristwatch, rings, andanyotherjewelry beforehandling
battery. Never connect negative (--) battery cable to
positive (+) connection terminal of starter solenoid. Do
nottest battery condition by shorting terminalstogether
orsparks could ignite batterygasesorfuel vapors. Any
compartment containing batteries must be well
ventilated to prevent accumulation of explosive gases.
To avoid sparks, do not disturb battery charger
connections while battery is being charged and always
turn charger off before disconnecting battery
connections. When disconnecting battery, remove
negative lead first and reconnect it last.
