Feedbacks in the environment of funconal safety
Motors can perform speed-dependent safety funcons for safe speed and/or safe relave
posion monitoring in a drive system by Lenze inverters or Controllers. In case of inverters,
these funcons are implemented by integrable safety modules and in case of Controllers by
the addionally required Safety Controller.
When planning systems/installaons of this kind, always observe the following:
When using just one single feedback system in the environment of these safety
applicaons, the applicable safety engineering standard IEC 61800-5-2 (adjustable speed
electrical power drive systems - Part: 5-2: Safety requirements - Funconal) spulates
special requirements for the connecon between feedback system and motor sha.
This is due to the fact that two-channel safety systems at this point in the mechanical
system are actually designed as single-channel systems. If this mechanical connecon is
designed with considerable overdimensioning, the standard permits exclusion of the fault
"encoder-sha breakage" or "encoder-sha slip". As such, the permissible angular
acceleraon limit values must not be exceeded for the individual drive soluons.
You can nd the limit values in the corresponding feedback data of the individual motor
ranges.
Speed-dependent safety funcons
Examples of speed-dependent safety funcons:
Safe stop 1 (SS1)
Safe operaonal stop (SOS)
Safely limited speed (SLS)
Safe maximum speed (SMS)
Safe direcon (SDI)
Operaon mode selector (OMS) with conrmaon (ES)
Safe speed monitor (SSM)
Safely limited increment (SLI)
