Troubleshooting Guide
Refer to the headings for the current situation and the corresponding table for possible causes and
solutions before contacting your nearest dealer or distributor.
Total Command Not Operating
Situation Remedy
Total Command does not respond
Ensure that the system is activated.
Check the capacity and fault lights. If neither is on, see your authorized
Mercury MerCruiser or Cummins MerCruiser Diesel dealer or distributor.
Total Command does not respond, and the
Status Indicator light is flashing
Place ERC levers in neutral.
Ensure both engines are on.
One or more thruster is inoperable. Let the thruster cool or batteries recharge.
No main power
Ensure the battery power on/off switch is on.
Ensure the key switches are on.
Ensure the engines are running.
Check the fuses.
The switchpad does not respond
Ensure the switchpad is activated. The green LED should be on.
Check the capacity indicator. The yellow LED should be off for full capacity.
Check the fault indicator. The red LED will be lit if there is a problem in the
system.
Electric motors getting power, but not turning
or turning too slowly
Check thruster for debris stuck in the propeller or tunnel.
Check for broken propeller thrust pin.
Thruster Not Operating

Electric motors getting power but propellers
not turning or turning too slowly
Check thruster for debris stuck in the propeller or tunnel.
Check for broken propeller thrust pin.
No main power Check the battery power on/off switch.
Switch pad
Ensure all operating conditions are met. Refer to Total Command
Operation.
Ensure that Total Command is activated. The green LED should be on.
Check the capacity indicator. The yellow LED should be off for full capacity.
Check the fault indicator. The red LED will be lit if there is a fault in the system.
Thruster motors turning, but no thrust
Thruster tunnels clogged with debris.
Thruster propeller pin broken. See your authorized service technician.
System has just recovered from shutting
itself off after exceeding capacity, all systems
are operational, a fault light is on, and one or
both thrusters are not operating
Heat limit protection on motor may be opened. See your authorized service
technician.
Controls Not Responding as Expected
Situation
Remedy
Joystick moved in forward or backward
direction but boat turns
Straighten the steering wheel.
Joystick pushed to side but boat turns One thruster not functioning. Check switchpad for capacity or fault lights.
Thrust is produced but boat turns or doesn't
leave the dock
Untie the lines.
Ensure anchor is properly stowed.
