SLES11 with Xen Hangs When Many PCIe ExpressModule
Cards Are Installed (CR 6917397)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES11) hangs with udev in dom0 when the number of
interrupt resources required by I/O devices exceeds a threshold. This is most likely in systems
where many PCIe ExpressModule cards are installed.
Workaround
1.
In the GRUB configuration, set pci=nomsi.
2. Boot a non-Xen kernel.
3.
Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst.
4. Add the following text to the Xen kernel init line stanza:
pci=nomsi
For example:
title Xen -- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 - 2.6.27.19-5
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/xen.gz
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27.19-5-xen nn.nn.n ... other text, parameters, etc pci=nomsi
module /boot/initrd-2.6.27.19-5-xen
or
Use YAST to add pci=nomsi as a boot parameter.
5. Reboot the Xen kernel.
