Flushing
and
Salt
Water
Maintenance
Flushing
the
cooling
system
with
fresh
water
is
necessary
to
neutralize
the
corroding
effects
of
salt
water
or
water
with
impurities
like
silt,
sand,
alkali,
and
other
particles
as
well
as
to
flush
out
other
residue
left
in
the
passages
of
the
watercraft cooling
system.
Flush
water
passages
when
the
watercraft
is
not
going
to
be
ridden
again
that
day
or
if
the
watercraft
is
expected
to
be
stored
for
an
extended
time.
Always
follow
the
recommended
flushing
procedure
below
when
flushing
the
watercraft
cooling
system
to
avoid
engine
damage.
Never
flush
a
hot
engine.
Severe
engine
damage
could
result.
Do
not
flush
engine
with
engine
turned
off.
Water
will
fill
engine
and
severe engine
damage
may
result.
A
WARNING
Do
not
touch
any
electrical
part
or
driveshaft
component
when
the
engine
is
running.
Severe
personal
injury
or
death
could
result.
Flushing
Procedure
Use
Flush
Kit
PN
2871443
1.
Attach
garden
hose
to
Female
Coupler/Hose
attachment.
2.
Snap
the
male
and
female
coupler
together.
Do
not
turn
on
water
yet.
3.
Start
engine
and
immediately
(within
10
seconds)
open
water
tap.
4.
Rev
the
engine
intermittently
for
one
minute
to
completely
flush
cooling
system.
5.
Turn
off
water
tap.
6.
When
all
water
has
exited
the
cooling
system,
turn
off
the
watercraft
engine.
NOTE:
This
step
should
not
take
longer
than
10
seconds.
7.
Press
button
on
female
coupler/hose
attachment
to
separate
from
male
coupler.
8.
Wipe
off
any
water
which
may
have
spilled
on
engine.
9.
Perform
corrosion
prevention
steps
and
fog
engine.
External
Engine
Corrosion
Prevention
After
flushing
the
engine
for
off-season
storage
or
after
salt
water
use,
rinse
external
engine
surfaces
with
freshwater,
dry
thoroughly
and
spray
all
metal
compo
nents
in
the
engine
compartment
with
a
non-flammable
lubricating
type
rust
inhibitor.
