16 During Operation
attachment with your hand or any part of your body,
@ 5.7.2. Keep bystanders at least 50ft. (15m) away while
testing the controls.
To test the controls:
Remove the activation key.
Unlock the retaining latch by pushing it forward with your
thumb.
Hold the retaining latch in the unlocked position.
Depress the trigger switch lockout and the trigger switch.
Release the retaining latch, trigger switch lockout and
trigger switch.
The retaining latch, trigger switch lockout and trigger
switch should return to their respective locked positions. If
they do not, take the trimmer to an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer to be repaired before use.
If you can depress the trigger switch without first unlocking
the retaining latch and depressing the trigger switch
lockout, take the trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing
dealer to be repaired before use.
Insert the activation key.
Hold the trimmer firmly with both hands, your fingers
wrapped tightly around the handles. Unlock the retaining
latch and depress the trigger switch lockout and trigger
switch momentarily.
The trimmer should switch on. If it does not, take the
trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be
repaired before use.
Release the trigger switch.
The trimmer should switch off.
If the cutting attachment does not stop after you release
the trigger switch, remove the activation key and take the
trimmer to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be
repaired before use.
15.2 Checking the Mowing Head and Cutting
Attachment
WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury from damaged or broken parts,
check the condition of the trimmer, mowing head and cutting
attachment before starting work and at regular, short
intervals thereafter. Do not operate the trimmer with broken,
damaged or malfunctioning parts, @ 5.7.1.
Before starting work, and periodically thereafter, check the
mowing head and cutting attachment for wear or damage:
Switch off the trimmer and remove the activation key.
If the wear mark(A) on the mowing head becomes visible,
do not use the trimmer. Have the mowing head replaced
before operating the power tool.
Replace the polymer blades if they reduce in length to less
than 1.8in. (45mm) (shown by distance a, above).
Always replace both polymer blades or both pieces of
nylon line at the same time.
16.1 Using the Trimmer
WARNING
To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid contact with the
moving cutting attachment, @ 5.7.4.
