Maintenance
This chapter contains the informationneededtodoperiodicandcorrective
maintenance on the oscilloscope, as well as repackaging instructions to use if you
need to return the oscilloscope to Tektronix for service.
Preventing ESD
Before servicing this product, read the Safety Summary and Introduction at the
front of the manual and the electrostatic discharge (ESD) information below.
CAUTION. Static discharge can damage any semiconductor component in this
oscilloscope.
When performing any service which requires internal access to the oscilloscope,
adhere to the following precautions. These precautions help you avoid damaging
internal modules and their components due to electrostatic discharge (ESD):
Minimize handling of static-sensitive m odules.
Transport and store static-sensitive modules in their static protected containers
or on a m etal rail. Label any package that c ontains static-sensitive modules.
Discharge the static voltage from your body by wearing a grounded antistatic
wrist strap while handling these modules.
Service static-sensitive modules only at static-free workstations. Do not allow
anything ca pable of gener ating or holding a static charge on the workstation
surface.
Handle circuit boards by the edges when possible.
Do not slide the modules over any surface.
Avoid handling modules in area s th
at have a oor or work-surface covering
capable of generating a static charge.
Inspection and Cleaning
Inspection and cleaning are done as pre ve ntive maintenance. Preventive
maintenance, when done regularly, can prevent oscilloscope malfunction a nd
enhance its reliability.
Preventive maintenance consists of visually inspecting and cleaning the
osc
illoscope, and using general care when operating it. H ow often you do
maintenance depends on the severity of the environment in which you use the
oscilloscope. A good time to perform preventive maintenance is just before
adjustment of the oscilloscope.
