Perform the following checks before and
after use.

Do not use outboard motor if any abnor-
mality is found during pre-operation check
or it could result in severe damage to the
motor or severe personal injury.

1. Daily Inspection
WARNING
Item Points to Check Remedy
Fuel System
• Check the amount of fuel in the tank. Replenish
• Check for debris in the fuel filters. Clean or Replace
• Check the rubber hoses for fuel leakage. Replace *1
Fuel Tank Cap
• Check for crack, leakage, damage in the fuel tank cap. Replace
• Check for crack, damage in the gasket and tether. Replace
• Check for leakage at full close. Replace
Electrical
Equipment
• Check that the stop switch functions normally and make sure
the lock plate is in right location.
Remedy or replace *1
• Check cords for loose connections and damage. Correct or replace *1
• Check the spark plug for dirt, wear and carbon build-up. Clean or replace *1
Throttle Sys-
tem
• Check that the carburetor choke valve functions normally. Replace *1
• Check carburetor linkage is working normally when moving the
throttle lever.
Correct *1
Recoil Starter
• Check the rope for wear and chafing. Replace *1
• Check the ratchet engagement. Correct or replace *1
Clutch and
Propeller Sys-
tem
• Check that the clutch engages correctly when operation the shift
lever. (3.5B only)
Adjust *1
• Visually check the propeller and shear pin for bent or damaged
blades.
Replace
• Check that the split pin is on the propeller.
Installation of
Motor
• Check the clamp screws attaching the motor to the boat for
tightness.
Tighten
• Check the thrust rod installation. Tighten
Cooling Water
• Check that cooling water is discharged from the cooling water
check port after the engine has started.
Repair *1
Tools and
Spares
• Check that there are tools and spare parts for replacing spark
plugs, the propeller, etc.
• Check that you have the spare rope.
Other parts
• Check if the anode is securely installed. Repair if necessary
• Check the anode for corrosion and deformation. Replace
