Towing with a rigid bar:
The towing eyes of both vehicles
should be on the same side.
If the towbar has to run at an angle,
note the following:
d Clearance may be restricted when
turning corners.
d If the towbar runs at an angle, lat-
eral forces will be generated (these
may be critical on a slippery sur-
face).
d To compensate for towbar angular-
ity, the two vehicles cannot always
be driven one directly behind the
other.
d If the towing vehicle's brakes are
applied, the other vehicle may
overrun it or skid sideways.
aThe towed vehicle should not be
heavier than the towing vehicle.c
Cars with catalytic converter should
only be tow-started if the engine is
cold. It is always preferable to use
jumper leads from another car or a
separate battery to start the car.
1 Switch on the hazard warning
flashers (comply with national reg-
ulations regarding their use).
2 Turn the ignition key to position 2.
3 Select third gear.
4 Keep the clutch pedal down. When
the car is moving, gradually
release the clutch pedal. When the
engine has fired and is running,
depress the clutch pedal again.
5 Switch off the hazard warning
flashers.
Have the cause of the starting prob-
lem traced and rectified by BMW
Service.
