Preparations For Jacking
• Park the vehicle on a firm, level sur-
face. Avoid steep, icy, or slippery ar-
eas.
• Set the parking brake firmly. For a
manual transaxle equipped vehicle,
place the transaxle in NEUTRAL.
• Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
• Turn off the engine.
• Put wheel blocks at the front and rear
of the tire diagonally opposite the tire
being changed. For example, if chang-
ing the right front tire, block the left
rear wheel.
WARNING!
Do not attempt to change a tire on the
side of the road close to moving traf-
fic. Pull far enough off the road to
avoid the danger of being hit when op-
erating the jack or changing the tire.
Jacking Instructions
• Remove the spare tire, jack, and jack-
handle from the trunk.
• Loosen, but do not remove, the wheel
nuts on the wheel with the flat tire.
Turn the wheel nuts counterclockwise
while the wheel is still on the ground.
• Place the jack underneath the lift area
that is closest to the flat tire. T urn the
jack screw clockwise to firmly engage
the jack saddle with the lift area of
the sill flange.
