6. Using the Optical Disk Drive
In this manual, CD-ROMs, audio CDs and CD-R/RW discs are collectively referred to as CDs,
and DVD-ROMs and DVD-Videos as DVDs. Also, CDs and DVDs are sometimes referred to
simply as discs.
Cautions in Using CD/DVDs
Take the following precautions when handling CDs and DVDs.
• Handle discs with care so that they are free from fingerprints, dust and flaws.
Fingerprints, dust and flaws on a disc could prevent information from being read from it or being
written/rewritten on it correctly. Also, they could prevent audio CDs and DVD-Videos from being
played back normally.
• Do not stick any label to a disc or do not write anything on it with a pencil or ballpoint pen.
• Be careful not to spill coffee or any other liquid on a disc.
• When a disc is dirty or wet, wipe it outward from the center with a slightly moistened cloth, and
then with a dry cloth.
Do not dry it with a hairdryer or do not let it dry itself.
• Do not use benzene, thinner, water, record cleaner, antistatic agent, or a silicone cloth to clean
discs.
• Keep discs in their cases whenever they are not in use.
• Do not bend a disc or do not put a heavy object on top of it.
• Do not keep discs in a hot or cold place.

INJURY
When inserting or removing a CD or DVD, be careful not to catch your finger in the tray
to avoid possible injury to your finger.

• Most publications, including music and videos, are protected by copyright. You are not allowed
to record or copy such publications (including the conversion of data formats) for any purpose.
If you want to use sound and video files for any purpose other than the above, e.g., delivering
them over a network, you have to obtain prior consent from the copyright holder.
