ExpressCards®/Smart Cards
Your notebook has either an ExpressCard slot or a Smart Card slot, depending upon your configuration.
ExpressCards
If your system is configured with an ExpressCard slot, it will support ExpressCards
®
which can perform a variety of
functions depending on which type of card you install. Some available ExpressCards:
• Gigabit Ethernet Local area network (LAN) cards
• S-ATA II cards
• IEEE802.11n WLAN cards
For further information, refer to the instructions supplied with your card(s).
Installing ExpressCards
There are two different width ExpressCards: 34 mm and 54 mm. The connector inside the slot is located on the left-
hand side of the slot. If you insert a 34 mm card, be sure to align it with the left side of the slot when inserting it.
ExpressCards are installed in the ExpressCard slot.
• INSTALLING OR REMOVING AN EXPRESSCARD DURING THE NOTEBOOK’S SHUTDOWN OR BOOTUP MAY DAMAGE THE CARD AND/OR YOUR NOTEBOOK.
• DO NOT INSERT AN EXPRESSCARD INTO A SLOT IF THERE IS WATER OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE ON THE CARD AS YOU MAY PERMANENTLY DAMAGE
THE CARD, YOUR NOTEBOOK, OR BOTH.
