3 Installation steps, overview
This chapter contains an overview of the steps necessary to install your Server.
The cross-references take you to the sections containing more detailed
information on the relevant installation step:
Ê First read the chapter "Important information" on page 31, particularly the
section "Safety instructions" on page 31.
Ê Unpack the server, check the contents of the package for visible transport
damage and check whether the items delivered correspond to the details on
the delivery note (see section "Unpacking the server" on page 44).
Ê Transport the server to the place where you want to set it up.
Ê Make sure that you have all necessary manuals (see "Documentation
overview" on page 12); print out the PDF files if required.
Ê Install the server in your system unit (see section "Hardware installation" on
page 43).
Ê Familiarize yourself with the controls and indicators on the front of the server
(see "Starting up and operation" on page 61).
Ê Install the operating system and applications on the server.
When doing so, you have the following options:
– Clone the server from a remote image server using the ServerView Deployment
Manager. Cloning the ServerView Deployment Manager from a remote image
server.
This procedure is recommended if the following conditions are met:
– ServerView Deployment Manager software is available.
– You have a suitable clone image.
– A Deployment Server and LAN connection are available.
– Remote installation with ServerView Installation Manager
This installation method is recommended if you have a LAN connection
and a DHCP server (Deployment Server) available, but the cloning
requirements are not met.
