When using single wall flex, this
section of venting must be wrapped
with non-combustible insulation to
prevent excessive heat build-up in
the cavity.
When venting in this configuration, a rain cap and proper
flashing must be installed on the top of the chimney to
prevent flooding and damage.
D. Existing Fireplace Installation:
If using a short runofventing, whether ex or rigid,
through the damper and into the chimney ue; The
Damper must be removed or locked in the open
positionandsealedwithaplateconstructedofsteelor
othernon-combustiblematerial.
Kaowool, mineral wool or other non-combustible
insulationisrecommendedabovetheplatetoreduce
thepossibilityofcondensation.Youwillalsoneedto
wraptheventingsectionbetweentheinsertframeand
thedampersealingplate.Thisistopreventoverheating
ofthereplacecavity,whichmaycausedamagetothe
insert'smotorsandotherelectricalcomponents.
Theconnectorpipeshouldextendthroughthesealing
plateandsmokechamberandinto,orbeyondtherst
uetile.
Besuretodesigntheventingsothatitcanbeeasily
cleaned.
Check withyour local authorityhaving jurisdiction to
determineifthisventingmethodisacceptable.Some
Provincial, State, or Local codes may require a full
linerruntothetopofthechimney.Besureandcheck
yourlocalregulationsbeforeplanningtheinstallation.
In thismethod, the proper ashing andraincap are
alsorequired.
IN CANADA: This replace insert must be
installed with a continuous chimney liner
of a minimum 3" diameter extending from
the insert to the top of the chimney. The
chimney liner must conform to the Class 3
requirements of CAN/ULC-S635, Standard
for Lining Systems for Existing Masonry or
Factory Built Chimneys and Vents, or CAN/
ULC-S640, Standard for Lining Systems for
New Masonry Chimneys.
