DuringoperationinROOMTEMP/AUTOMATICmode,
theappliancewillshutdownnaturallywhendemandis
metorexceeded.Inothermodesofoperation,theunit
willshut-downonlyiforwhenitrunsoutoffuel.
To kill or stop a re, turn the mode selector dial to
"OFF". The shut down cycle will slow or stop the
feedertograduallycoolthereandensurethatallof
theexhaustgasesaresafelyexpelledbeforestopping
thecombustionblower.Thisnotonlyensuresremoval
of all smoke and gases, it also keeps the re from
attemptingtotravelintothefuelstoragehopper.Forthis
reason; Hearth & Home Technologies recommends
installing a battery back-up in areas where frequent
poweroutagesareexperienced.(Alsoseepage13)
NEVER ATTEMPT TO KILL A FIRE BY PULLING
THE PLUG OR OTHERWISE DISCONNECTING
THE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY.
The best way to kill a re, especially at the end of the
heating season, is to simply allow it to run out of fuel.
I. Relaxation Mode
Anaddedfeatureforthosetimes whenyou'dlike to
unwindwatchingarebutyetdonotwantalltheheat.
Withtheigniterswitchinthe"MANUAL"positionand
themodeselectorin"STOVETEMP",yourtemperature
dialcanbesetuptoa#3andthedistributionblower
willbedisabled.Asyouturnupthetemperaturedial
and the re begins to burn hotter, the distribution
blowerwillbegintooperate.
G. Starting a Fire - "AUTOMATIC"
1. Withthemodeselectorinthe"OFF"position,and
theFeedAdjusterNOTon"Test",plugthepower
cordintoaproperlygroundedreceptacle.
2. FillthehopperwithDRYfuel.
3. TurntheFEEDADJUSTERdialto"Test".Thiswill
runthefeedmotorforoneminute.Ifyoubeginto
see fuel entering the burn pot, you can stop the
testcycle.Returnto#4or#5tostartout.
4. PositiontheIgniterswitchtoAUTOMATIC.
5. Turnthemodeselectordialtothedesiredmode.
Thiswillstartthecombustionblower,feeder,and
igniteroperating.If Room Temp is selected, be
sure to turn the temperature dial above the
current room temperature.
6. After the initialfeed cycle istypically when you'll
begintoseesparks,smoke,orames.
Keep Hopper Lid, Ash Pan, and Fire viewing doors
closed while in operation. Maintain all door seals
and gaskets in good condition. Replace gaskets
when necessary using parts obtained through
your Harman® dealer.
H. Maintaining the Fire
Once the Distribution Blower begins operation, your
reiswellestablished.Now,youcanmakeanydesired
adjustments to the temperature dial. Remember, in
STOVE TEMP, the temperature dial uses the inner
portionofthescale(#1thru7).InROOMTEMP,select
thedesiredtemperatureinFahrenheitfrom 50to90
degrees.
Theamesshouldappearbriskandbright.Ifyousee
deeporangeandlazyames,itisusuallyanindication
that the burn pot needs to be cleaned. Refer to the
MaintenanceSectionofthismanual.
Keep combustible
materials, gasoline, and other ammable vapors or
liquidsclearofthisappliance.
• DoNOTstoreammable materialsinthevicinity
ofthisappliance.
• DO NOT BURN GARBAGE OR FLAMMABLE
FLUIDS SUCH AS GASOLINE, NAPTHA OR
ENGINEOIL.
• DO NOT USE CHEMICALS OR FLUIDS TO
STARTAFIRE.
Keep all such liquids well away from the heater while it
is in use, combustible materials may ignite!
