F. Accordion Heat Exchanger
Thiscleaningshouldbedonemonthly,oraftereachtonof
pelletsused.Thefrequencyofthiscleaningwillbedirectly
relatedto the qualityandthequantity of thepelletsbeing
used. Keep in mind that the cleaner the heat exchanger
surfaceiskept,thehighertheheattransferefciencywillbe.
Due to its ease of restarting it is recommended that the
furnacebeOFFandCOOLbeforecleaning.
Beforestarting to clean theinsideofthe rebox area itis
recommendedthatallofthebafingberemoved.Startwith
the upper heatexchanger bafe.Figure 5.8. Removethe
rebrickthenpushstraightupwardonthelowerashslide
angleapproximately 1/2”.This will releasethebafefrom
thepositioningbracketsandallowittobetiltedtowardthe
burnpotandremovedfromthefurnace.
Note: Observethepositioningtabsandbracketsystemon
therearoftheupperbafeasitisbeingremovedforeasier
replacementlater.
Removethelowerbafeplate.Thisbafeisaatplatethat
sitsonthereboxoor.Tipthetopedgetowardtheburnpot
andliftupandoutofthefurnace.Notehowthebafebottom
edge sits behindthe ash panguide and againstthe heat
exchanger.Figure5.9.
Withallofthebafingremoved,theentirereboxareaand
the accordion heat exchanger can be cleaned. Use the
pointedendofthescrapersuppliedtocleantheaccordion
heatexchanger.Asmallwispbrush,wirebrush,oranold
stiffbristledpaintbrushworksbestforcleaningtherebox
walls and bafe plates.All of the y ash removed during
cleaningwillfalltothebottomofthefurnacewherethereis
anunobstructedaccessforcleaning.Eventhebottomends
ofthechainscanbeseenandaccessedeasilyfromthedoor

CAUTION
Cleanout of the heat exchanger, ue pipe, chimney,
and combustion blower fan housing is especially
important at the end of the heating season to minimize
corrosion during the summer months caused by
accumulated ash.
