buildupsthatmayblocktheeasyowofuegasesintothe
combustionblowerinlethole.(Aashlightmaybenecessary.)
Inspectthechainshakermechanismforproperoperation.
Note: Fly ash can buildup to the top edges of the heat
exchanger tubes without affecting operation. Thechain
shakerwillcauseanyexcesstofalldownintothechamber
underthetubeswhereitcanbecleanedoutthroughthere

ACCUMULATED ASH.
CAUTION
I. Tube Heat Exchangers:
The heat exchanger tubes have an external handle that
operatesthecleaningmechanism.Figure5.15.
This cleaning should be done at least once a week,
although it can bedone morefrequently.The cleanerthe
heatexchangersare,themoreefcientthefurnacewillbe.
Thiscleaningcanbedoneatanytimeandinanymodeof
operation.
Thehandlehastwodirectionsofmovement,RighttoLeftand
InandOut.Allinsidesurfacesoftheserectangulartubescan
becleanedwiththisrangeofmotion.First,withthehandle
pushedin,turnthehandlerighttoleft,thefullsweep,several
strokes.Second,withthehandlepointingstraightdown,pull
outandpushinwardseveralstrokes.Third,withthehandleall
thewayout,turnthehandlerighttoleft,thefullsweep,several
times.Endwiththehandlepushedinwardandpointingdown.
Theshaker handle should bepushed inward andstraight
downduringnormaloperation.Figure5.15.

Inspect ue pipes, ue pipe joints and ue pipe seals
regularly to ensure that smoke and ue gases are
not drawn into, and circulated by, the air-circulation
system.
