3. SMART DRIVE CABLE
REMOVAL
1. Fully loosen the Smart Drive cable adjuster (P. 3-10).
2. Remove the Smart Drive control (P. 11 -13
).
3. Cut the two cable ties securing the Smart Drive cable
to the handlebar.
4. Pull the Smart Drive cable down and out of the
handlebar.
5. With the lawn mower on its right side (carburetor side
up), push in on the transmission control arm and then
unhook the Smart Drive cable from the transmission
control arm.
6. Use a pair of long needle-nose pliers to depress the
plastic tabs on the end of the Smart Drive cable while
pulling the Smart Drive cable out from the top of the
cable holder.
INSTALLATION
1. Fully loosen the Smart Drive cable adjuster (P. 3-10).
2. Route the Smart Drive cable down through the hole in
the rear housing.
3. Install the Smart Drive cable end snap fitting into the
cable holder in rear housing.
4. Route the upper end of the Smart Drive cable through
the hole in the handlebar left side until it's visible in the
slot in the top of the handlebar.
5. Install the Smart Drive control and cable (P. 11 -1 3
).
6. Attach the Smart Drive cable end on the transmission
arm. Be sure the belt tensioner spring is installed
properly on the transmission and rear housing. Ensure
the spring bracket is properly installed into the rear
housing (P. 1 2- 1 2
) as it may fall out easily.
7. Adjust the Smart Drive cable (P. 3-10
).
8. Install two new cable ties around the Smart Drive
cable, flywheel brake cable (PKA/VKA/VLA) or
Roto-Stop cable (VYA), and handlebar, and then
position the cable ties for the appropriate type as
shown, beginning on page 2-21
.
