Power supply configurations
The Switch 5406zl and 8206zl provide slots for two internal supplies and require at least one internal power
supply. An additional internal power supply may be added for 1+1 redundancy system power or to provide
additional PoE power.
The Switch 5412zl and 8212zl provide slots for four internal supplies and require at least two internal power
supplies. Two additional internal power supplies may be added for 1+1 system power redundancy or to
provide additional PoE power.
1+1 power supply redundancy implies providing twice the minimum number of supplies required to power the
system.
Table 3 shows the HP ProCurve Switch 5400zl and 8200zl series minimum and maximum internal power
supply configurations, as well as internal combined power with external power shelf configurations.

following criteria can be used to guide the decision:

•Howmanynetworkdeviceswillrequirepower(howmanyPoE/PoE+portsareneeded)?
•Isredundantpowerrequired(forinternalpowerand/orPoEpower)?
NOTE: The power supplies provide a “pool” of power for all line interface modules to draw from; that is, PoE
power is not limited on a per line interface module basis.
