h. When the disk drive is initialized and formatted, press F3 to return to the Work with Disk Units
display.
i. Select Start hot spare, and press Enter.
j. Select the IOA with the new disk, then press Enter and press Enter again.
k. Does the new hot spare disk drive have a smaller capacity than previous hot spare disk drive?
Refer to the resource name identified in the xxxx9031 error that was logged close to the same
time of the original disk failure.
v No: The procedure is complete. Press F3 to return to the System Service Tools display.
v Yes: Go to the next step.
4. Select Display Device Parity Status, and press Enter. If the new disk drive is not active and hot
spare protected, do not continue. Call your next level of support.
5. You must complete the following steps to ensure that your data is protected. To exchange the two
disk drives so that the larger disk drive becomes the hot spare, and the smaller disk drive becomes a
parity set member, complete the following steps:
a. Fail the previous hot spare disk drive by unlocking the disk drive handle by squeezing it and
pulling it out toward you.
b. Pull the drive out about one inch and wait ten seconds.
c. Push the disk drive back into the slot and close the handle.
6. Return to step 1 on page 82 and start the hot-spare procedure on the larger drive.
7. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap on and that the ESD clip is
connected to an unpainted metal surface. If not, do so now.
8. If you replaced a drive and have not verified the drive yet, verify that the power LED is ON (green)
and the amber fault LED is OFF (not lit) for the replaced drive on the front of the system.
9. If applicable, cover the SSD cage with the perforated plate (A) as shown in Figure 81.
