Belt Tension
Accidental starting.
Can cause severe injury or death.
Disconnect battery cables before working on
generator set (disconnect negative lead first and
reconnect it last).
WARNING
Disabling generator set. Accidental starting can
cause severe injury or death. Disconnect battery
cables (remove negative lead first and reconnectit last)
todisablegeneratorsetbeforeworkingonthegenerator
set or connected equipment. The generator set can be
started by the remote start/stop switch unless this
precaution is followed.
WARNING
Rotating parts.
Can cause severe injury or death.
Do not operate generator set without all guards,
screens, and covers in place.
Servicing generator set when operating. Exposed
moving parts can cause severe injury or death.
Keep hands, feet, hair, clothing, and test leads away
from belts and pulleys when generator set is running.
Replace guards, screens, and covers before operating
generator set.
Check the belt tension as listed inthe service schedule.
If the tension is not within specifications, adjust as
necessary using the following procedure.
Seawater Pump Belt
1. Remove the belt guard.
2. Check belt tension at the midpoint of the longest
spanofthebelt. Atmidpoint,thebeltshoulddeflect
about 0.4-0.6 in. (10-15 mm) with about 22 lbs.(10
kg) of force. See Figure 3-13.
If belt is not within specifications, go to Step 3. If
belt is within specifications, go to Step 7.
3. Loosen pivot and adjusting screws.

4. While prying seawater pump outward, tighten
adjusting screw.
5. Tighten pivot screw.
6. Recheck and adjust as necessary.
7. Replace the belt guard.
