UsingtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceresidesinaprotected,hiddenareaofyourharddiskdrivethat
operatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem.Itenablesyoutoperformrecoveryoperations
evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.Youcanperformthefollowingrecoveryoperations
fromtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace:
Rescuefilesfromyourharddiskdriveorfromabackup
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutolocatefilesonyourharddiskdriveandtransfer
themtoanetworkdriveorotherrecordablemedia,suchasaUSBdeviceoradisc.Thissolutionis
availableevenifyoudidnotbackupyourfilesorifchangesweremadetothefilessinceyourlastbackup
operation.YoualsocanrescueindividualfilesfromaRescueandRecoverybackuplocatedonyourlocal
harddiskdrive,hybriddrive,aUSBdevice,oranetworkdrive.
RestoreyourharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup
IfyouhavebackedupyourharddiskdriveusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogram,youcanrestorethe
harddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup,evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperating
system.
Restoreyourharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultsettings
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutorestorethecompletecontentsofyourharddiskdrive
tothefactorydefaultsettings.Ifyouhavemultiplepartitionsonyourharddiskdrive,youhavetheoption
torestorethefactorydefaultsettingstotheC:partitionandleavetheotherpartitionsintact.Becausethe
RescueandRecoveryworkspaceoperatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem,youcan
restorethefactorydefaultsettingsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.
Attention:IfyourestoretheharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackuporrestoretheharddisk
drivetothefactorydefaultsettings,allfilesontheprimaryharddiskdrivepartition(usuallydriveC:)willbe
deletedintherecoveryprocess.Ifpossible,makecopiesofimportantfiles.Ifyouareunabletostartthe
Windowsoperatingsystem,youcanusetherescuefilesfeatureoftheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceto
copyfilesfromyourharddiskdrivetoothermedia.
TostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace,dothefollowing:
1.Makesurethatthecomputeristurnedoff.
2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF11keywhenturningonthecomputer.Whenyouhearbeepsor
seealogoscreen,releasetheF11key.
3.IfyouhavesetaRescueandRecoverypassword,typeyourpasswordwhenprompted.TheRescue
andRecoveryworkspaceopensafterashortdelay.

4.Dooneofthefollowing:
Torescuefilesfromyourharddiskdriveorfromabackup,clickRescuefilesandfollowthe
instructionsonthescreen.
TorestoreyourharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackuportorestoreyourharddiskdrive
tothefactorydefaultsettings,clickRestoreyoursystemandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
