Transmission Maintenance
Maintenance
The Hydro Gear 0510 is filled, sealed and and does not
require regular maintenance. However, in the event of oil
contamination or degradation, oil addition or change may
alleviate certain performance problems.
The transmission oil level can be checked at the access
hole located behind the left rear wheel (see “Check Fluid
Levels” for oil level and fill procedures).
TRANSMISSION INFORMATION
Transmission Oil Capacity:
Approx. 79 fl oz qt (2.3 liters).
Transmission Oil Type: SAE 20W-50 with a minimum
API rating of SG/CD.
Transaxle oil change
1. Remove the transaxle from the rider.
2. Clean the expansion tank and oil fill port areas of any
debris.
3. Remove the oil fill port plug.
Do not allow dirt, water, or other debris to
enter the expansion chamber or
transmission. Even a small amount of dirt
can damage the transmission
4. Position the transaxle so the oil will drain completely
out of the housing.
5. After all the oil is completely drained , remove the
expansion tank by removing the self tapping bolt
10-32 x 1/2 that holds the tank support bracket.
6. Remove the tank and drain the oil from the tank. DO
NOT remove the vent cap from the tank. DO NOT
remove the tank hose or o-ring unless replacement is
necessary.
7. Install the tank by first inserting the hose into the
opening in the expansion tank. Push the tank open-
ing over the o-ring to ensure a proper seal.
8. Install the tank support bracket and self tapping bolt
making sure not to cross thread the bolt. Torque bolt
to 45-55 in-lbs.
9. Fill transaxle at the fill port according to instructions in
Check Fluid Level section of this document.
10. Install oil fill plug.
11. Reinstall transaxle into rider.
12. Check operation of transmission. Transmission may
require purging, See “Purging Procedure” in this doc-
ument.
