The alternator and battery will be dam-
aged if the cables are interchanged.
Securely tighten the cables. Loose ca-
bles can cause re.
Never run the engine if the battery is
not connected. The alternator and
electrical system could be seriously
damaged.
9.10.4 Cleaning
For the intervention timing see chapter
13.
If the battery terminals are oxidized, they need to
be cleaned.
Clean the battery terminals with a wire brush and
grease them.
9.11 AIR FILTER, ENGINE (27)
For the intervention timing see chapter
13.
For this maintenance, see also the
engine manual supplied with the ma-
chine.
9.11.1 Cleaning/Replacement
For the intervention timing see chapter
13.
NOTE! Filters need to be cleaned/re-
placed more often if the machine is
working on very dusty ground.
Remove/install the air lters as follows:
[ST.]
1. Clean the area around the lter cover (27:C).
mod. TRE 0701
2. Remove the cover (27:C) by unscrewing the
two knobs (27:D).
mod. TRE 586 VA
2. Open the cover (27:C) by turning the opening
knob (27:D).
3. Remove the ltering element (27:E, 27:F).
4. Remove the foam pre-lter (27:F) from the
cartridge (27:E).
If acid comes into contact with the
eyes or skin it can cause serious injury.
If any part of the body comes into con-
tact with the acid, rinse it immediately
with plenty of water and seek medical
attention as soon as possible.
Battery uid does not need to be checked or
topped up.
The only maintenance required is to charge the
battery, for example after a long period of storage.
The battery can be charged:
by the engine
by a battery charger
9.10.1 Charging by the engine
This mode is only possible if the battery has a
minimum charge that allows starting.
in case of a new battery, connect the cables to
the battery.
Take the machine outdoors.
Start the engine following the instructions in
this manual.
Run the engine continuously for 45 minutes
(time required to fully charge the battery).
Stop the engine.
9.10.2 Charging by a battery charger
Use a constant voltage charger. Using
a standard charger can damage the
battery.
For more information, contact your lo-
cal dealer.
Before connecting the charger, discon-
nect the battery from the electrical sys-
tem.
9.10.3 Disassembly/assembly
The battery is located under the engine bonnet.
Connect and disconnect the cables as follows
when assembling or disassembling the battery:
1. During disassembly. First, disconnect the
black cable from the negative battery termi-
nal (-). The disconnect the red cable from the
positive battery terminal (+).
2. During assembly. First connect the red cable
to the positive battery terminal (+). Then con-
nect the black cable to the negative battery
terminal (-).
The battery may short or be damaged
if the cables are disconnected/con-
