REMOVING
THE GEARBOX
FROM
THE FRAME
(RIGID
FRAME

Battery Carrier and Air Cleaner Assembly. Disconnect the cable and remove
the battery. Remove the two base screws and strap nut and remove the battery
carrier, together with the air cleaner.
Exhaust System. Unscrew the front connections and silencer hanger bolts and
remove the two exhaust pipes and silencers complete.
Footbrake Pedal. Unscrew the spindle nut and slide the pedal
off
the spindle.
Footrests.
Remove the left hand footrest securing nut and remove the left hand
footrest. Withdraw the other footrest complete with rod. Do nor lose the
distance piece between the chaincase and the engine plate.
Primary Chaincase Outer Cover.
Disconnect the three leads from the stator,
underneath the saddle.
Remove the screws connecting the outer cover to the
inner.
Place a tray under the chaincase to catch the oil and remove the outer cover,
pulling the stator lead through the inner cover.
Engine Sprocket and Rotor. Bend back the locking tab on the rotor retaining
washer and loosen the retaining nut.
Clutch. Remove as indicated on page
83
when the clutch housing
is
free on the
shaft. Unscrew the nut on the engine shaft and remove the clutch, engine sprocket,
rotor and primary chain together.
Remove the Woodruff key from the gearbox
mainshaft.
Primary Chaincase Inner Cover. Unscrew the nut and bolt connecting the rear
chain guard .to the inner cover. Unscrew the three screws connecting the inner
cover to the crankcase and
remove the inner cover.
Rear Chain. Take out the spring link and remove the
rear
chain from the gearbox
sprocket.
Clutch Cable. Disconnect the cable nipple from the gearbox clutch lever and
completely unscrew the adjuster from the inner cover, to release the cable.
Speedometer Cable.
Unscrew the cable nut at the gearbox end and withdraw
the cable.
Primary Chain Adjuster. Unscrew the nut which secures the adjuster to the
frame.
Gearbox Clamp Bolt.
Remove the clamp bolt nut and tap the bolt through the
frame lug.
