Operation
Trolling
The trolling function is only available for engines with
hydraulic reversing gear, optional slipping valve, adaptor
and mechanical control.
The trolling function requires two control levers, one for ac-
celerator and gear, and the other to control the slipping
valve. Trolling makes it possible to use higher engine power
without increasing speed.
WARNING! If engine speed exceeds 1100 rpm, the
EVC system automatically disengages trolling and the
engine returns to normal operation. Depending on the
position that the control lever is in when automatic
disengagement occurs, the boat speed can increase
rapidly.
Operation
Move the accelerator/reversing lever to the position where
the reversing gear is in neutral and move the slipping
control to the maximum slipping position. Engage the
desired gear (accelerator/reversing lever) and set the
desired slipping position, within the permissible engine
speed range.
The slipping control should be in the minimum slipping po-
sition when trolling is not used, to get full propeller effect.
Propeller shaft brake
In certain conditions, the propeller can make the propeller
shaft rotate when the engine is stopped. This parasitic rota-
tion is uncomfortable, and can damage the reversing gear
since its oil pump, which is driven by the input shaft, is sta-
tionary together with the engine.
The propeller shaft can be permitted to rotate with a statio-
nary engine for up to 6-8 h. After this, the engine must be
started and run for at least 5 min to lubricate and cool the re-
versing gear.
If the shaft is likely to rotate faster than in normal operation,
such as when sailing, a temperature gauge should be instal-
led to monitor the oil temperature.
Maximum permissible temperature is 95°C for the ZF re-
versing gear.
When the above-mentioned rules can not be met, or if you
want to stop the shaft for comfort reasons, a shaft brake has
to be installed. On isolated occasions, the propeller shaft
flange can be locked mechanically by some suitable means.
