Engine, General
General inspection
Make a habit of visually checking the engine and
engine bay before starting, and after operations when
you have stopped the engine. This will help you to
quickly discover abnormalities, or if something is about
to happen.
Look especially carefully for oil, fuel and coolant
leakages, loose bolts, worn or poorly-tensioned drive
belts, loose cable connections, damaged electrical
cables and hoses. This inspection only takes a few
minutes and can prevent serious malfunctions and
expensive repairs.
WARNING!
Risk of fire.
Remove all accumulations of fuel, oil and grease when
detected on the engine or in the engine room.
WARNING!
If an oil, fuel or coolant leak is detected, the cause must
be investigated and the fault rectified before the engine
is started.
Never direct the jet from a high-pressure washer at
seals, rubber hoses or electrical components. Never
use the high pressure setting for engine cleaning.
Drive belt, check and change
WARNING!
Stop the engine before doing any maintenance work.
General
Check belts after operation while they are still hot. It
should be possible to depress an alternator belt or
drive belt around 3–4 mm (0.012–0.016") between
pulleys.
IMPORTANT:
Always replace a belt that appears worn or is cracked.
Belts working in tandem must be replaced
simultaneously.
Both the alternator belts and drive belt have automatic
belt tensioners and should not need adjusting.
