VLANOverview
TheVirtualLocalAreaNetwork(VLAN)protocolisabasicprotocoloflayer-2switching
equipment,whichenablestheadministratortodivideaphysicalLANintomultipleVLANs.
EachVLANhasaVLANIDtoidentifyituniquelyintheentireLAN.MultipleVLANsshare
theswitchingequipmentandlinksofthephysicalLAN.
Logically,aVLANislikeanindependentLAN.AllframeīowsinthesameVALNare
restrictedinthisVLAN.Cross-VLANvisitcanonlybeimplementedthroughforwarding
onlayer-3.Inthisway,thenetworkperformanceisimproved,andtheoverallīowinthe
physicalLANiseffectivelylowered.
TheVLANhasthefollowingfunctions:
1.Reducethebroadcaststormsofnetwork.
2.Enhancethenetworksecurity.
3.Providecentralizedmanagementandcontrol.
TheZXR102900Ealsosupportsthetagged-basedVLAN.ThisisamodedeīænedinIEEE
802.1Qandalsoisauniversalworkingmode.Inthismode,thedivisionofVLANisbased
ontheVLANinformationabouttheport(PVID:portVLANID)ortheinformationinthe
VLANtag.Also,theZXR102900EsupportsthedivisionofVLANaccordingtopacket
protocoltype,thatis,protocolVLAN.
