Hostinabroadcastdomainusuallysetsadefaultgatewayasthe
nexthopofroutingdatapackets.Thehostinthebroadcastdo-
maincannotcommunicatewiththehostinanothernetworkunless
thedefaultgatewayworksnormally.T oavoidthesinglepointof
failurecausedbythedefaultgateway,multiplerouterinterfaces
areconguredinthebroadcastdomainandruntheVirtualRouter
RedundancyProtocol(VRRP)intheserouters.
VRRPisusedtoconguremultiplerouterinterfacesinabroadcast
domainintoagrouptoformavirtualrouterandassignsanIP
addresstotheroutertofunctionasitsinterfaceaddress.This
interfaceaddressmaybetheaddressofoneofrouterinterfaces
orthethirdpartyaddress.
Iftheinterfaceaddressisused,arouterwiththeinterfaceaddress
actsasthemasterrouter .Otherroutersactasthebackuprouters.
Therouterwithhighpriorityisusedasthemasterrouterifthe
thirdpartyaddressisused.Iftworoutershavethesamepriority,
theonethatsendsVRRPmessagerstwins.
SettheIPaddressofthevirtualroutertogatewayonthehost
inthisbroadcastdomain.Themasterrouterisreplacedwith
thebackuprouterwiththehighestpriorityifthemasterrouter
isfaulty,withoutaffectingthehostinthisdomain.Thehostin
thisdomaincannotcommunicatewithoutsideworldonlywhenall
routersintheVRRPgroupworkabnormally.
Theserouterscanbeconguredintomultiplegroupsformutual
backup.ThehostsinthedomainusedifferentIPaddressesas
gatewaytoimplementdataloadbalance.
