8.7. COMMUNICATIONS PROBLEM SOLVING
There are a number of factors that could cause communications to fail. Following this list of
actions should help to remedy most problems.
1. Check that the communications parameters have been set correctly at both the PC
and the unit. It is essential that the command address matches the unit address and that the
baud rate is set the same at both ends. Also ensure that the unit has been set to the correct
communications protocol (RS232 or RS485) and that the correct com port has been set at
the PC.
2. Check cable connections – ensure that the cable is plugged into the correct
connectors at the PC and the unit.
3. Check cable wiring.
4. Check the command set – ensure that valid commands are being sent.
5. Verify the checksum calculation for the command – if it is incorrect, the command will
be ignored.
Diagnostics software is available on request. This will enable commands to be sent to verify
responses from the unit, to check cabling and also to monitor communications on the bus.
