Use a wired connection when setting up your wireless router
to avoid possible wireless setup issues.
Before setting up your ASUS wireless router, do the following:
If you are replacing an existing router, disconnect it from
your network.
Disconnect the cables/wires from your existing modem. If
your modem has a backup battery, remove it as well.
Reboot your computer (recommended).
To set up the wireless router in Router mode:
1. Connect your devices.

In Router mode, the wireless router connects to the Internet either
through PPPoE, Automatic IP, PPTP, L2TP, or Static IP, and provides
wireless signals for your network. NAT, firewall, and IP sharing
services for LAN clients are enabled.
Use an Ethernet cable (wired connection) to connect your
computer to the wireless router for initial configuration to avoid
possible wireless setup problems.
