unlesstheelectrolytelevelisbelowthetopoftheplates.Inthiscase,addjustenoughwatertocovertheplates,
charge,andthencheckthelevelagain.Neverchargebatteriesifplatesareexposedaboveelectrolytelevel.For
bestbatterylife,addonlydistilledwater.SeefollowingCAUTIONandNOTE.

3.Thebatteryhold-downsshouldbetightenoughsothatthebatteriesdonotmovewhilethevehicleisinmotion,
butnotsotightastocrackorbucklethebatterycase.For8-voltbatteries,tightenhold-downretainingnutsto
106in·lb(12N·m).Theterminalconnectionsshouldbecleanandtight,andanyworninsulationorfrayedwires
shouldbereplaced.Tightenbatteryterminalstopropertorque.SeeConnectingtheBatteries–Electric
