SAFETY iNTERLOCK SWITCH ES
Thistractoris equippedwitha safetyinterlocksystemforthe protection
oftheoperator.Ifthe interlocksystemshouldevermalfunction,do not
operatethetractor.Contacta Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer.
Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefromcrankingor
startingunlesstheparkingbrakeisengaged,andthePTO(Blade
Engage)handleisinthedisengaged(OFF)position.
Theenginewillautomaticallyshutoffif theoperatorleavesthe
seatbeforeengagingthe parkingbrake.
TheelectricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwillautomaticallyshut
off iftheoperatorleavesthetractor'sseatwiththe PTO(Blade
Engage)knobinthe engaged(ON)position,regardlessof
whetherthe parkingbrakeisengaged.
Withthe ignitionkeyinthe NORMALMOWINGposition,the
electricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwillautomaticallyshutoffif
thePTO(BladeEngage)knobis movedintotheengaged(ON)
positionwiththedrive pedalinpositionfor reversetravel.
Donotoperatethe tractorif theinterlocksystemis malfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedfor yoursafetyandprotection.
STARTING THE ENGINE
NOTE:Referto theAssembly& Set-Upsectionof thismanualfor
GasolineandOilfill-upinstructions.
1. Insertthetractorkeyintotheignitionswitchmodule.
2. PlacethePTO(BladeEngage)knobinthedisengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethe tractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethe chokecontrolby movingthe throttle/chokecontrolall
thewayforwardinto thechokeposition.
5. TurntheignitionkeyclockwisetotheSTARTposition.After
theenginestarts,releasethe key.Itwill returnto theNORMAL
MOWINGposition.
DoNOTholdthekeyinthe STARTpositionfor longerthan ten
secondsata time.Doingso maycausedamageto yourengine's
electricstarter.
6. Aftertheenginestarts,deactivatethe chokecontrol.
NOTE:DoNOTleavethe chokecontrolon whileoperatingthetractor.
Doingsowillresultina "rich"fuel mixtureandcausethe engineto run
poorly.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Ifyou strikea foreignobject,stoptheengineanddisconnectthe
sparkplugwire(s). Thoroughlyinspectthe machinefor anydamage.
Repairthedamagebeforerestartingandoperating.
1. Ifthe bladesare engaged,placethe PTO/BladeEngageknobin
thedisengaged(OFF)position.
2. Placethe throttlecontrolnearthe SLOWposition.
3. Turntheignitionkeycounterclockwiseto theSTOPposition.
4. Removethekeyfromtheignitionswitchto preventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand suddenstops.
Lightlypressthebrakepedalto releasethe parkingbrake.Movethe
throttleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
1. TotravelFORWARD,slowlypressthedrivepedalforwarduntil
thedesiredspeed isachieved.SeeFigure7.

2. TotravelinREVERSE,checkthattheareabehindisclearthen
slowlydepressthereversepedalwiththeballof yourfoot(NOT
yourheel)untilthedesiredspeedis achieved.SeeFigure7.
DoNOTattempttochangethedirectionof travelwhenthetractoris
inmotion.Alwaysbringthe tractortoa completestopbeforemoving
fromforwardto reverseor viceversa.
Donotleavethe seatof the tractorwithoutfirstplacingthe PTO/
BladeEngageknobinthe disengaged(OFF)positionandengaging
theparkingbrake.Ifleavingthe tractorunattended,alsoturnthe
engineoff andremovetheignitionkey.
