STOPPING THE ENGINE
If youstrikea foreignobject,stoptheengine,disconnectthespark
plugwire(s)andgroundagainsttheengine.Thoroughlyinspectthe
machineforanydamage.Repairthedamagebeforerestartingand
operating
1. Ifthe bladesareengaged,placethe PTO(BladeEngage)leverin
thedisengaged(OFF)position.
2. Turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwisetotheSTOPposition.
3. Removethe keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedandsuddenstops.
Donotleavethe seatof thetractorwithoutfirstplacingthe PTO
(BladeEngage)leverinthedisengaged(OFF)position,depressing
Ithe brakepedalandengagingthe parkingbrake.Ifleavingthe tractor
[unattended,alsoturn theignitionkeyoffand removethe key.
Alwayslookdownandbehindbeforeandwhilebackinguptoavoida
back-overaccident.
1. Depressthe clutch-brakepedaltoreleasetheparkingbrakeand
thenletthe pedalup.
2. Movethe throttleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
3. Placethe shiftleverineithertheFORWARDor REVERSE
position.
IMPORTANT: Do NOTusethe shift leverto changethedirectionof
travelwhenthetractorisin motion.Alwaysusetheclutch-brakepedal
tobringthetractorto a completestopbeforeshifting.
4. Releasethe parkingbrakeby depressingtheclutch-brakepedal
andpositioningthespeedcontrolleverinthedesiredposition.
IMPORTANT: First-timeoperatorsshouldusespeedpositions1or
2.Becomecompletelyfamiliarwiththetractor'soperationandcontrols
beforeoperatingthetractorinhigherspeedpositions.
5. Releaseclutch-brakepedalslowlytoput unit intomotion.
6. The lawntractorisbroughttoa stopbydepressingthe clutch-
brakepedal.
NOTE:Whenoperatingthe unit initially,therewill be littledifference
betweenthehighesttwospeedsuntilafterthe beltshaveseated
themselvesintothe pulleysduringthe break-inperiod.
WARNING!Beforeleavingtheoperator'spositionfor any reason,
disengagetheblades,placethe shiftleverinneutral,engagethe
parkingbrake,shutengineoff andremovethe key.
IMPORTANT: Whenstoppingthetractorfor any reasonwhileona
grasssurface,always:
1. Placethe shiftleverinneutral,
2. Engagetheparkingbrake,
3. Shutengineoffand removethekey.Doingso willminimizethe
possibilityofhavingyour lawn"browned"byhotexhaustfrom
yourtractor'srunningengine.
Ifunitstallswithspeedcontrolinhighspeed,orif unitwill notoperate
withspeedcontrolleverin a lowspeedposition,proceedas follows:
1. Placeshift leverinNEUTRAL.
2. Restartengine.
3. Placespeedcontrolleverinhighestspeedposition.
4. Releaseclutch-brakepedalfully.
5. Depressclutch-brakepedal.
6. Placespeedcontrolleverindesiredposition.
7. Placeshift leverineitherFORWARDor REVERSE,andfollow
normaloperatingprocedures.
DRIVING ON SLOPES
Refertothe SLOPEGAUGEinthe SafetyInstructionssectionofthe
manualto helpdetermineslopeswhereyoumayoperatethistractor
safely.
Donotmowon inclineswitha slopeinexcessof 15degrees(a rise
ofapproximately2-1/2feetevery10feet).The tractorcouldoverturn
andcauseseriousinjury.
• Mowupanddownslopes,NEVERacross.
• Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirectionon slopes.
• Watchfor holes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orother hiddenobjects.
Uneventerraincouldoverturnthemachine.Tallgrasscanhide
obstacles.
• Avoidturnswhendrivingon a slope.If a turnmustbe made,turn
downtheslope.Turningupa slopegreatlyincreasesthe chance
ofa rollover.
• Avoidstoppingwhendrivingup a slope.If itisnecessarytostop
whiledrivingupa slope,startupsmoothlyandcarefullyto reduce
thepossibilityof flippingthe tractoroverbackward.
ENGAGING THE BLADES
Engagingthe PTO(BladeEngage)transferspowerto thecuttingdeck
or other(separatelyavailable)attachments.To engagetheblades,
proceedasfollows:
1. Movethethrottle/chokecontrollevertothe FAST(rabbit)position.
2. Graspthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverandpivotitall theway
forwardintotheengaged(ON) position.
3. Keepthethrottleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)positionforthemost
efficientuseofthe cuttingdeckorother(separatelyavailable)
attachments.
NOTE:The enginewill automaticallyshutoff ifthe PTOisengaged
withtheshift leverinpositionforreversetravelwiththeignitionkeyin
the NORMALMOWINGposition.
MULCHING
A mulch kit isavailableasan attachment.Mulching isa processof
recirculating grass clippings repeatedly beneath thecutting deck.
Theultra-fineclippings are then forcedbackinto the lawnwhere
they act asa naturalfertilizer.
