Attaching the Battery Cables

Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadandlead
compounds,chemicalsknown tothe Stateof Californiato causecancerand
reproductiveharm.Washhandsafter handling.
Whenattaching battery cables,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE(Red)wireto its
terminal first, followed bythe NEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthavebeenleft
disconnectedfromtheterminalsatthefactory.Toconnectthe batterycables,
proceedasfollows:

1. Removetheplasticcover,ifpresent,fromthepositivebatteryterminaland
attachtheredcabletothepositivebatteryterminal(+) with theboltand
hexnut.SeeFigure1.
2. Removetheplasticcover,ifpresent,fromthenegativebatteryterminaland
attachtheblackcableto thenegativebatteryterminal(-) with theboltand
hexnut.SeeFigure1.

NOTE:Ifthebatteryisput intoserviceafterthedateshownontopof battery,
chargethe batteryasinstructedin theService& Maintenancesectionof this
manualpriortooperatingthetractor.

Shipping BraceRemoval
Makesuretheriding mower'sengineisoff, removetheignitionkey,and
setthe parkingbrakebefore removingthe shippingbrace.Refertothe
jOperatonsectonfor nstructonsonhowto set the parkng brake.
Locatetheshippingbrace,ifpresent,andaccompanyingwarningtagfound
ontherightsideof themower,betweenthedischargechutedeflectorand
thecuttingdeck.SeeFigure2.

Placethedecklift leverinthehighestcutting position.Referto Settingthe
CuttingHeightintheOperationsectionof thismanual.
Whilepushingthedischargechutedeflectortowardsthemachinewithyourleft
hand,removetheshippingbracewithyourrighthandbygraspingitbetweenyour
thumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
Theshippingbrace,usedfor packagingpurposesonly,must beremovedand
discardedbefore operatingyour riding mower.
Themowingdeckiscapableof throwing objects.Failureto operatethe
riding mowerwithout the dischargecoverinthe properoperating position
lcoudresut nser ouspersonanjury and/or property damage.
AttachingTheSteeringWheel
Ifthesteeringwheelforyourtractordid notcomeattached,thehardwarefor
attachingithasbeenpackedwithin thesteeringwheel,beneaththesteeringwheel
cap.Carefullypryoffthe steeringwheelcapandremovethehardware.
1. Withthewheelsof thetractorpointingstraightforward,placethesteering
wheeloverthesteeringshaft.
2. Placethewasher(withthecuppedsidedown)overthesteeringwheeland
securewith thehexbolt.SeeFigure3.
3. Placethesteeringwheelcapoverthe centerof the steeringwheeland
pushdownwarduntilit"clicks"intoplace.
